Like many of my karting friends and customers, I did not start karting at 10 years old. At ten, I was playing baseball, learning chess, digging in the mud, and doing what other neighborhood kids were doing. I wanted to be a pitcher for the Oakland Athletics and drive a car like the Knight Rider. As I grew up, my goals and education were aimed towards becoming a business owner. In high school and college, my elective classes were business and computer related. My first real focus was to become an accountant, but after about 3 years of schooling, I changed directions.
During my college years, I bought my first go kart, a TrackMagic with a Yamaha KT100. As I started racing, I thought of various ways to make ends meet, while staying in the drivers seat. I was officially a karting "lifer" at this point. I ended up taking various jobs in a bank, a collections firm, a tuxedo rental company and finally planting my feet at KLS Racing.
KLS Racing provided the opportunity to apply the fundamentals that I learned in school. Starting out in the office to help KLS Racing on a part time basis, quickly turned into a full time job. It also allowed me an inside track to the kart racing industry. It is much easier to focus on a task (of being a race car driver) when you are surrounded by people who are committed to similar goals. Monday through Friday, I took care of the office duties, and on the weekends, I was racing. It took about two years for all the pieces to come together. I learned the hard way that race prep is essential to any successful racing program, and proper planning is essential in any type of business.
After leaving KLS Racing, I went on my own and started Fast Fusion Kart Services. The part I love about tuning is it is a constant challenge. I have successfully tuned for both local and national drivers. From my tuning experiences, it dawned upon me that I love being at the track and I love helping people achieve their goals. In September 2006, I went back to work for SwedeTech Racing Engines. SwedeTech's owner, Reine Persson, has been an intregal part of my karting life, as an engine builder, employeer, and friend. When the opportunity arose to join the SwedeTech staff, I moved quickly to get on board.
Over the years, I had seen Jeff either racing or helping other drivers. Jeff was always pleasant to talk to, his hair was perfect, and his kart was absolutely spotless from any type of foreign matter (DO NOT TOUCH HIS KART, Jeff is a clean freak).
In 2006 and 2007, I saw Jeff's true character. I mentioned my idea of Extra Kart Parts and he was interested. As 2007 came to a close, Jeff pursued the Extra Kart Parts concept with more enthusiasm, and I thought this was the type of person I wanted to associate myself with. Jeff's added energy helped pull the concept of Extra Kart Parts off of paper, and collectively we have turned the business into reality.
